Insignia, Ranks & Awards

Rank, Awards, and Service Medals for enlisted men and NCOs are the responsibility of the company Hauptfeldwebel. He keeps the records, acts on recommendations from other re-enactors and has wide discretionary authority in these matters.

We try to balance is historical authenticity with recognition for contributions from our members. With rank comes responsibility and with awards come higher expectations for personal conduct.

Insignia & Awards
The Wehrmacht's pre-war reformation of leadership culture favored an egalitarian vs. aristocratic outlook, responding to criticisms of the Imperial Army's performance during the Great War. Awards for service and performance was likewise reformed to recognize a wider range of accomplishment and contribution based on ability and merit, not social class. Officers were expected to lead by example and share all hardships.
