The buttons on the upper sleeves on the anorak were used to fasten colored identification armbands which could be changed as directed.
The slanted upper pockets on the Windjacket were intended to remain unbuttoned for easy access. The pocket flaps were cut so that they could be folded into to the pocket-- not unlike the design of the access vents on the camo smocks.
