New Oxford 2012

This year's scenario was designed for the town of New Oxford to represent Thionville, France (Diedenhofen in German) south of Luxembourg near the Maginot Line.

It is September 1944; the western front has been collapsing; the Germans are re-grouping to mount a defense of the approaches to Germany. The Allies launch Market Garden in the north and send diversionary thrusts to the south. The local occupational government in Thionville is startled and withdraws, leaving vital cross-roads open. The French believe they will be liberated until front line troops from the East and Italy are re-deployed to mount a defense....

The Germans send a reconnaisance in force to secure the cross roads in the town center and are thereafter reinforced. As the Allied armor begins to overwhelm the defense, the German artillery is evacuated to higher ground along with support troops, while the recon force covers their withdrawal and is KIA or captured...

Allies and Axis re-engage outside of town while the town celebrates its liberation and jumping forward in time, holds a ceremony to recognize local WW2 veterans.

This year, Stars and Stripes was on hand to record the event.
